About one-third of converters are located in China, according to Cereplast. Whether the crops are grown in the American bread basket or abroad, bioplastic materials may make several intercontinental voyages, using fossil fuel in the process.

Manufacturers can drop Cereplast's material into their existing production lines without adjusting the equipment. Half of the frisbee pictured here is made of recycled plastics (not from Cereplast) and is shown next to the injection molding machine that formed it.
