The U.K. Ministry of Housing and Planning released details on its proposed Thames Gateway project last week. The environmentally focused redevelopment project would encompass a total of 100,000 hectares (386 square miles) along the 40-mile stretch from the River Thames in London to the Thames Estuary, where the river meets the North Sea. The mouth of the estuary is flanked on the north by Southend in Essex and on the south by Sheerness in Kent.
