The mission of the Society for Sustainable Mobility (SSM) and the Open-Source Green Vehicle Project is to "create a three-part solution to our dependency on natural resources." And they may just make a pretty cool car along the way.

SSM's Kernel is a crossover SUV that can be modified to fit five different power options: gasoline, 85 percent ethanol, fuel cell hybrid, diesel or biodiesel, natural gas, or electric. Software designed to operate the car at peak fuel efficiency and test data will be shared over the Internet in an "open-design" format.
