Not far out beyond New Orleans' Bayou Bienvenue the Army Corps of Engineers is planning on building a surge barrier that will protect the city from storm surge driven through the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal. For now it is a concept, but the Corps hopes to finish the barrier within a couple of years. This waterway is where the barrier will be placed.
