This Vietnam War-era M48A3 90mm gun medium tank, known as the "Patton 48," was first commissioned by the U.S. Army for use in Vietnam in the late 1960s. It was taken back to the U.S. in 1971 for reconditioning and was then returned to South Vietnam, where it was used by the South Vietnamese Army in 1973. Later, it was captured by North Vietnamese forces, and in 1996, a private collector bought it and turned it over to the Patton museum.
The tank carried a crew of four, and had an M41 90mm rifled main gun, an M73 7.62 mm machine gun, and an M2 .50 caliber machine gun. It weighed 107,000 pounds, and had a top speed of 30 mph and a range of 300 miles.
