CNET News.com reporter Daniel Terdiman visited the Louisville Slugger factory in Louisville, Ky., Thursday as part of Road Trip 2008.

Louisville Slugger is the largest provider of baseball bats to Major League Baseball, with more than 50 percent of big-leaguers using the company's lumber. All told, counting bats for the major leagues, the minor leagues and other levels of baseball, it makes 1.83 million bats a year.

Here, a bunch of freshly made bats that have just been dipped in lacquer to make them shiny, hang off a rack to dry.
