In this picture, it is possible to see a number of the Allen Telescope Array's antennas, along with the snow-covered Mount Shasta far off in the background. The array is housed at its remote location because it is one of the few places in the world that provides protection from the terrestrial transmissions--radio, television and so forth--that can interfere with the data collection by the antennas.
