The Power On sequence begins with a check of the wiring connections throughout the aircraft, after which an external power cart is hooked up and electricity flows into one segment of the system at a time so that factory technicians and engineers can ascertain the right level of electrical power for that particular area.
Boeing says that nearly 900 Dreamliners are on order for 58 customers and that it expects the aircraft to "enter revenue service" in 2009. The first commercial flight of the 787 had been scheduled for May 2008. The most capacious 787 model will hold up to 330 passengers, and the midsize aircraft's range could reach 8,500 miles. Extensive use of composite materials in place of metal could help cut fuel consumption.
