Photos: Mars lander discovers white material

This image taken by the Phoenix's Optical Microscope shows soil sprinkled from the Phoenix's robotic arm onto a silicone substrate. It shows some soil clumping which proved to be a problem in handling the first samples. This is the highest resolution image yet seen of Martian soil.
