The U.S. Army's 159th Combat Aviation Brigade next month will begin taking delivery of the UH-60M, the latest generation of the military branch's widely used medium-lift utility helicopter. With the M version, the Sikorsky-built Black Hawk now comes standard with a digital avionics suite that makes use of embedded GPS/INS (Global Positioning System/inertial navigation system) technology for what the Army calls "situational awareness" and of PC Cards for downloading flight information. The brigade, part of the 101st Airborne Division, based at Fort Campbell, Ky., is expected to receive 30 of the new Black Hawks by May 2008; a training model was delivered in October.
