Images: Exploding comet grows a tail

Comet Holmes was discovered by British amateur astronomer Edward Holmes on November 6, 1892. Holmes was viewing the Andromeda galaxy (top right) when he saw the comet (below left). The comet was discovered during a similar outburst in brightness that faded over a few weeks.
