Photos: V-22 Osprey deploys to Iraq

The Osprey program grew out of research done into vertical take-off and landing with the Bell XV-15 Tiltrotor experimental aircraft in the 1970s. That initial work was funded by NASA and the Army. (Photo from October 1980.)
