The scientists behind the New Horizons mission applaud their success and those of everyone involved with the project as they receive confirmation that the flyby of Jupiter was successful. Confirmation came at noon eastern standard time on February 28 at the New Horizons Mission Operations Center at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md.

"It's a fantastic feeling. I mean, we've planned this for years and it really nice to see it come to fruition," said Alan Stern, principal investigator of the New Horizons mission and executive director of the Space Science and Engineering Division at the Southwest Research Institute.
