With the second annual Wirefly X Prize Cup getting under way Friday at the Las Cruces International Airport in New Mexico, a daredevil billed as Rocketman donned his jet pack.
It might seem the right attire for the occasion, but it wasn't enough to qualify for the premiere event, the Lunar Lander Challenge. The competition requires prospective space vehicles to fly 50 meters into the air and then another 100 meters horizontally before landing vertically, with a time limit of 2.5 hours.
Alas, the jet pack allows for only about 30 seconds of flight time, though in capable hands, it does allow its wearer to fly and land vertically.
