The gray-faced sengi measures roughly a foot long. There are an estimated 20,000 living in the jungles of Tanzania, but scientists are still concerned about conservation and protecting the species. The Udzungwa Mountains are extremely rich in biodiversity, but some studies caution that, without protection, critical areas will be lost to development and depletion by 2009.
