Participants are given their own crime scene assignment before watching a brief introduction video. The film features footage from the show CSI, the show's creator Anthony Zuiker explaining the exhibit's purpose, a real-life forensics expert talking about crime scene investigation, and actor William Petersen as Gil Grissom pep-talking his new team of "crime scene investigators."
The exhibit was developed by the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History for the Science Museum Exhibit Collaborative (SMEC), a program in which seven leading science museums take turns developing exhibits they can share. CBS Consumer Products, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the National Science Foundation and the cast and crew of the show CSI were all involved in the making of the exhibit.
