Spider boat
1 of 7 from Photos: 'Spider' boat spins through the waves
That thing you see crossing San Francisco Bay may look like a spider, but it could be the first full-sized WAM-V or wave adaptive modular vessel from Marine Advanced Research. The Proteus, invented and designed by Ugo Conti, is 100 feet long and has a beam of 50 feet.
A crew of two can run the ship, which is powered by two Quantum Series QSB5.9 355 horsepower engines. The modular boat is made of titanium, aluminum and reinforced fabrics.
