Flag stickers on the back of the robot van represent the various nationalities of students working on the project. There's also a temporary generator affixed to the van that runs the computer systems inside during testing. But during the race, Alice will rely on backup batteries.

Also, Caltech's first robot in the 2004 Grand Challenge was named "Bob." So when the team built Alice for the 2005 race, in classic nerd humor, they thought it would be funny to give the robot this license plate, "I 8 Bob."
