Follow-Me, a mobile robot platform for a helper robot, follows Bob Allen of Ologic, who is wearing a ultrasonic-based beacon in his vest. The robot, which stops within three feet of the beacon and avoids obstacles, can be made taller and hold a payload of up to 40 pounds. Allen envisions the robot being used as a helper to elderly people for carrying everything from laundry to groceries and even meals. The Follow-Me lithium-ion battery can last up to three to four hours before the robot will alert its owner that it needs to go back to its docking center to recharge.
