Photos: A Cool Robot for polar duty

March 16, 2007 12:52 PM PDT

The robot got its first field test in Greenland during July and August of 2005. The robotics team worked at a site called Summit Station, located more or less in the center of the big Arctic Ocean island--"a long way from anything," according to the account on the Cool Robot site. The robot had no trouble getting over obstacles in its way. Grad student Alex Streeter kept a blog of the Greenland sojourn. (Much of the information for this gallery was derived from the Cool Robots site.)
