The U.S. Green Building Council hosted its annual conference, GreenBuild Expo, in Boston last week. In addition to high-profile speakers like green activists Van Jones and Bill McKibben, the council made progress on an upgraded LEED green building certification for individual buildings and neighborhoods.

Many of the green-building products on the conference show floor were aimed at building professionals and architects, with an emphasis on recycled and sustainably sourced materials along with some renewable energy products.

Here is a small wind turbine made out of aluminum and steel from GTC Almere in the Netherlands. It's designed for individual homes and comes in three versions. This product can generate 500 watts. The company is initially targeting cell-phone towers in the U.S., but the turbines could work on street lights or homes, according to a company representative.
