GE researcher Paul Tanpitukpongse shows off the components of a home automation system that will be available later this year. GE is working with a real-estate developer to install the systems in new homes. Consumers will have an ecodashboard that enables them to monitor their water and energy usage in real time.
The package will include the touch-screen dashboard, a control unit that can change the settings on appliances and thermostats, and a smart meter that can share information on energy usage with utilities.
