Designer Rocio Romero kept in mind environmentalists who favor minimal, modern design when creating kit homes like this one from her LV Home Series. Some 110 homes like this model have been sold, with 20 inhabited so far in Maine, Virginia and California.
Romero's factory in Perryville, Mo., makes the materials. The LV is then trucked to its final destination. The average LV residence is about 1,000 square feet, although some owners have tripled that size. Prices range between $120 to $190 per square foot, not counting the land. It can take between two months to a year between the order and move-in dates.
