Keeping the vintage counters and cabinets intact, Sklar and Tremayne brightened the kitchen with wood floors and white walls. The work they did by hand included blending batches of Papercrete from scratch to make insulation and fencing. They made their own water-resistant, anti-bacterial paint as a cement substitute for about $20 using Prickly Pear cactuses, abundant in the region. The couple has spent $10,000 to spruce up their 1,100-square-foot trailer, which initially cost them about $1 per square foot.

Correction: This caption incorrectly stated the amount that Mikey Sklar and Wendy Tremayne paid to remodel their trailer. The correct amount is $10,000.
