It looks like a wind turbine, and kind of acts like one. The device's developer, Marine Current Turbines, based in Bristol, England, wants to plant a 1.2-megawatt turbine in waters off Northern Ireland in the fall. The blades flip around to get power from incoming and outgoing tides. Although waves are more predictable than sun or wind, tides can be predicted decades in advance, says Peter Fraenkel, technical director of MCT.
