Amonix is using solar concentration for large-scale systems aimed at utilities. Its arrays, which move with the sun, magnify light over 500 times with low-cost plastic lenses onto high-efficiency cells. Its tests show that about 30 percent more electricity is generated with this design, compared with fixed solar arrays without lenses to focus light. These utility-scale systems, such as this one in Nevada, generate 25 kilowatts each.
