Due to a short supply of newly built green housing, ecologically motivated home buyers usually wind up retrofitting existing buildings. Green real estate agents may advise homeowners to apply for energy-efficient mortgages and to make simple and tax-deductible changes such as adding energy-efficient appliances and better insulated windows. Green Realtors also refer clients to architects such as Freed who can draw up plans for renovation and additions that use low-toxic and recycled building materials.
