Turning waste into energy

June 6, 2007 3:58 AM PDT

Waste-to-energy start-up Ze-gen is building a plant in New Bedford, Mass., to test a cleaner technique for turning municipal solid waste into electricity. The equipment, including this portion of the feed unit, is being installed now and will process construction and demolition waste. Using a process called "gasification," the plant will test how efficiently it can turn waste to a synthetic gas that is then burned in a turbine to make power.
