The living planted roof will feature hills that echo the landscape around the Academy. Nine native California species totaling more than 1.7 million plants will require no artificial irrigation. The planted roof will provide a thermal insulating layer for the building, which will help prevent overheating during the summer months and reduce energy needs for air conditioning.
