A prone posture may allow for a good angle when working on the front end of the vehicle, but the competition's safety rules prohibit a head-first driving position.

Besides the team from Ohio's Cedarville University, the Eco-marathon Americas features entrants from defending champ California State Polytechnic, along with UCLA, UC Berkeley, Louisiana State University, Penn State, Purdue, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, Universite Laval, and even a smattering of high schools. Cedarville is one of the few to have two vehicles entered. (That's Slipstream in the picture.)
