Four days of trial runs determine who qualifies for the Indianapolis 500. The 33 cars with the fastest times after four laps enter the race.
In the last hour of the last day of qualifying trials, the Chastain car had posted one of the fastest 33 trial times but was in danger of being bumped off the list. The team decided to withdraw its first trial, which could have qualified the car, and make a new attempt to lock up a spot. This time, substitute driver Roberto Moreno drove the car at an average speed of 220.299 mph, securing its place in the final lineup. The pit crew was excited, to say the least.
