The curtains are up at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It's an especially important year for bogged-down automakers that are trying to stem the flow of red ink while meeting the demand for more environmentally friendly vehicles.

General Motors hopes to shock the world with its new all-electric concept car, the Chevrolet Volt. It has a range of 40 city miles after a six-hour charge from a household electrical outlet.
