The 2007 edition of the North American International Auto Show kicks off Sunday with several days of press previews--those are the events when the curtain gets pulled back on all the hot new designs. The automotive extravaganza, known more casually as the Detroit auto show, will feature both concept cars and production models.

One much anticipated concept car is the Toyota FT-HS, a hybrid vehicle with muscle car yearnings. The goal for the automaker's Calty Design Research team was to come up with a midpriced sports car "that integrates ecology and emotion," Toyota says. The 3.5-liter V6 hybrid electric drive train has a target output of 400 horsepower and a projected ability to go from 0 to 60 mph in the four-second range.
