Dune buggy blends with hot rod in the Mini BioMoke from BMW Group DesignWorksUSA. Like the Sandstorm, it features customizable body panels and an alternative fuel powertrain. What sets it apart is the palm tree seeds infused throughout its single sheet of biodegradable construction material. The designers envision a five-year life span, at the end of which "its body composts to promote tree growth and clean the air."

The contestants were judged on four main criteria: originality of concept, contribution to the environment, degree of safety and reflection of a Southern California 'green' lifestyle. The design competition was a feature of the Los Angeles Auto Show, running December 1 to 10. The LA Auto Show is taking place twice in 2006, as the backers switch from a January date to a late November-early December run.
