More than 20 flights of stairs get you to the top of the bridge detour, which provides an incredible view of the East and, on a clear day, even South Bay. Stairways like this, which are sized just large enough to fit between the sections of bridge that are moving, can be found on both sides of the bypass, as well as other parts of the old section, which is already being prepared for decommission.

The section of bridge to the right is being slid into place after the old part is detached and moved to the side. Just below this (though not pictured) is the skid jack, which is what's allowing most of the operation to take place on the same piece of equipment.
