Photos: A real hockey hero becomes a virtual game star

2K Sports senior product manager Mike Rhinehart skates around the synthetic ice at the company's Novato, Calif., studio. The wand in his hand is being used to calibrate the 56 motion-capture cameras all around the studio to get them in sync with each other. Individually, each camera shoots in 2D, but when all 56 are synchronized, they can create a fully 3D effect.
