A guy in a Pac-Man suit accompanies the hosts and the 10 Pac-Man World Championships finalists onstage right before the final showdown between the top two players. Fourth from the left is Billy Mitchell of Hollywood, Fla., the oldest of the 10 finalists, famous for having been the first person to ever hit a perfect score in a Pac-Man arcade game. In the World Championships, Mitchell placed eighth.
While the 10 finalists ranged in age from 13 to 41 and hailed from countries as far-flung as Taiwan, New Zealand, Austria and Mexico, none was female. Likewise, Ms. Pac-Man was nowhere in sight.
