In places like Colombia, where thousands have been injured during years of civil war, technology can serve an especially strong purpose. As in Colombia, some of the most striking nonprofits in Brazil are those that help connect people with disabilities--not just to the Internet, but also to jobs.

Latin singing star Juanes, who hails from Colombia, established a Parque Juanes de la Paz (Juanes Peace Park) in Medellin that includes, among other things, a computing center for those with disabilities.
