The Canon Cat was developed by Jef Raskin, also one of the original creators of the Macintosh computer. He believed the mouse was an inefficient user interface and used "leap" keys below the space bar instead to navigate the screen. The Cat, first sold by Canon in 1987, only moved about 20,000 units in the six months it was on the market, said Dwight Elvey, owner of this computer.
