Sony's 11-inch OLED prototype was a hit at a display forum in Tokyo in April. "OLED sets are very expensive, and we mean to begin first by marketing the TVs as a status symbol," Kazuhiro Imai, a senior manager in Sony's TV and Video business group, told the Reuters news agency at the time. "We will see where the business goes from there." The company said the OLED TV would be built by ST Liquid Crystal Display, a joint venture between Sony and Toyota Industries.
