Sony displayed its 11-inch and 27-inch OLED TV prototypes at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. The company has targeted 2008 for the first mass-market OLED TVs, while others like Toshiba have said 2009 is more realistic. The technology has been talked up for a while, mostly for its potential as a challenger to LCD televisions since the organic material used to power OLEDs has the potential to be cheaper and more energy-efficient and to provide a very pretty picture.
