Jeon, a graduate student at the University of California, Irvine, created Drop Drop, a combination of makeshift design engineering, computing and art. It works like this: A person on the ground directs a tiny remote-controlled car to drive around on an image screen. A video camera positioned overhead takes a video feed of the car's movement and sends that feed to the adjacent PC.
Through motion-tracking and object-finding technology, the PC will detect the car's movements and send out a command to the projector to dot the image screen with watercolor paint splotches tracing its path. Once the car is parked, the PC will clear the screen and send the image to the color printer, creating a work of spontaneous art.
