Lomas calls his project "social movement." It starts with a giant pole topped with a video camera, which takes constant images of the room and people's movement at Make Fest, but the images are time-lapsed on a 10-minute loop. The video also represents the crowd's movement at 10 times its normal speed. That way, Lomas said, he can study the design of the room and its effects on how people socialize over the course of the night. "This process lets you study the architecture of space to see how it affects social interaction," he said.
Lomas said the setup cost about $500, between the 40-foot pole and video camera, but not including his Apple computer.
