The first made-for-TV remote control, called "Lazy Bones," was produced by Zenith in 1950. The remote was connected by wire to a tuner that changed the channels up or down and turned the TV on or off. Its problem? The wire stretching across the middle of the living room proved to be an accident waiting to happen.
