UCSF nursing director Ann Williamson shows off the COW (computer on wheels), the current method for digitally recording patient data. There aren't enough of the bulky carts to go around, so nurses have to share them and often must write down a patient's vital signs on a piece of paper before they can locate the nearest COW. This can cause delays in entering that information, as well as potentially serious errors.
