One of the most efficient devices in the home is a wireless router. Like a set-top box, these are usually plugged in and on all the time. But they consume only about 4W to 8W of power, or 35kWh to 70kWh of power a year. That seems to be a small price to pay for the convenience of wireless Internet around the home.
