Most people these days are mindful of their electric bills as energy costs continue to rise. But not as many people realize how much energy they use to run their household electrical gadgets. For example, switching to an LCD (liquid crystal display) flat-screen monitor will not only help your eyes and free up space on your desk, but it will consume about 45 fewer watts than a bulky CRT (cathode ray tube) monitor will. Assuming that it's on 5 hours a day, that's about $10 you'll save if you live in California over the course of a year.
