Samsung Electronics announced its latest mobile device Wednesday at the Mobile WiMax Summit 2006 in Seoul, South Korea. The handheld, called the SPH-P9000 Deluxe, utilizes WiMax technology, faster than cellular technology and with a longer range than Wi-Fi so that it can handle both phone and data content more efficiently. Tipping the scales at slightly over a pound, the SPH-P9000 is equipped with a 5-inch screen, QWERTY keyboard, 1GHz processor, 30GB hard drive, and Bluetooth capability.

Media enthusiasts may be interested in some of the device's other specs: a 1.3-megapixel camera, MP3 player and video-on-demand functions. It's pretty small, measuring 5.5 inches by 3.5 inches, although because of the fold-out keyboard and screen, it's over an inch thick.

The SPH-P9000 Deluxe won't be available until sometime in the first half of 2007, and at this point it appears the device will remain restricted to Korea.
