According to educators, Gen X cynicism has been replaced with millennial self-absorption in the college classroom. Universities are hoping to exploit that trend by using Web 2.0-style tools to get students more excited about their education.
The tools may be new, but the titles are still old-school. Where else but in a college class would you find a treatise on the "Nostalgia of the past, and the interlacement of capital and gender, Vertigo and America."
For a film studies and comparative literature course on "a historical overview of the different kinds of political, cultural, and sexual metaphors the cinematic city articulates," Dartmouth undergrads used wikis and blogs that fellow students were required to post to as part of the class work.
