Yi Wei, 21, pulls an abandoned couch cushion from the bushes lining Greer Park. At first, the park, located in well-to-do Palo Alto, seemed like an ill-begotten choice for the cleanup crew. Participants had resigned themselves to scuttling for small wrappers and cigarette butts in the otherwise litter-free expanse--until Wei's hedge-diving produced grubby pay dirt. "Trash is everywhere," he said. "You just have to look for it."
